Imagine a Future Without Water

The year is 2050. La Crescenta and the American West face an unprecedented crisis: the complete depletion of fresh water. What does life look like in your community when water becomes the most precious and scarce resource? How do people adapt, survive, and find new ways to thrive?

We invite middle and high school students to explore these questions and more in our "Life Without Water" science fiction writing contest. This is your chance to envision the not-too-distant future of La Crescenta and the broader American West, where creativity, resilience, and innovation shape the world in the absence of abundant water.

Contest Details:

·         Eligibility: Open to all middle and high school students in La Crescenta and the surrounding regions.

·         Entry Requirements: Submit a science fiction story set in a future where fresh water is incredibly scarce. Your story should be between 500 and 2,000 words.

·         Illustrations: We encourage you to bring your story to life with artwork.

·         Submission Deadline: All entries must be submitted by September 15th.

Judging Criteria:

·         Creativity and Originality: How imaginative and unique is your vision of a water-scarce future?

·         Storytelling: How compelling is your narrative? Are your characters well-developed, and does your plot captivate the reader?

·         Scientific Accuracy: How well do you incorporate real-world scientific principles and potential future technologies?

·         Use of Illustrations: How effectively does your artwork enhance your story?

·         Impactful: How powerful is your story in highlighting the importance of water to human life and the value of this precious resource?

Prizes:

·         First Place: $100 gift card and publication of the story on our website.

·         Second Place: $50 gift card and publication of the story on our website.

·         Third Place: $20 gift card and publication of the story on our website.

How to Enter:

1.      Write your science fiction story, focusing on the theme of "Life Without Water."

2.     Create illustrations that enhance your narrative (optional).

3.      Submit your story and illustrations by emailing customerservice@cvwd.com with the subject line "Life without water" and then your story title.
